It’s easy to feel helpless while doomscrolling and hearing all of the catastrophic destruction and displacement the Los Angeles wildfires have wrought in wanting to help to those in need. We’ve been there.

We’ve put together a helpful guide of organizations organizing donations and providing critical services to those in disaster.

Central to our mission here at Duckbill is to be the ultimate helper and empower our members to help others. Review this list for ways you can make an immediate impact with your dollars, or lean on us here at Duckbill to help you get your donations to those who need it most.

Ready to help? Submit these tasks now:

  1. Can you help me make donations directly to families impacted by wildfires in LA?

  2. What are the local organizations on the ground in LA I can donate to?

  3. What's the best way to donate clothing, personal items, and essentials to those in need in LA?

  4. Please help me donate N95 masks, air filters, and other safe air supplies to people in the LA area.

  5. Where can I donate pet food and supplies for displaced animals in LA?

  6. Send restaurant gift cards to displaced friends in LA.

  7. Order Instacart gift cards for my friends who need help with groceries and daily essentials.

  8. Can I buy a gift card to Duckbill for someone who's displaced at a discount?

Looking for more resources?

  • Help impacted families directly by donating to their GoFundMe campaigns. You can consult this directory of GoFundMe's for Black families displaced by the wildfires in places like Los Angeles' historically Black Altadena neighborhood. The Nerd Lys, Los Angeles residents and self-proclaimed nerds, have also put together a list of GoFundMe’s for those in need.

  • Donate to @thesidewalkprojectla, an arts and peer empowerment organization that exists to create wellness for those that live outdoors. They are currently accepting donations, PPE, tarps, tents, sandbags and other shelter supplies.

  • Donate to California Community Foundation's recovery fund dedicated to helping victims of wildfires.

  • Looking to help those with pets? Pasadena Humane helps with animal evacuations and takes in animals from displaced families. You can donate here.

  • Passionate about mutual aid? Mutual Aid LA Network (MALAN) is a connector and information hub for mutual aid efforts, people and resources across Los Angeles. Visit their extensive spreadsheet for ways you can donate money and and resources. Check their Instagram for daily updates on their evolving needs and ways you can support.

  • Donate to Baby2Baby’s Fire Relief Fund as they work to provide diapers, food, formula and hygiene products for vulnerable children and families.

  • Instacart is facilitating the purchase and delivery of critical food, water and other supplies to be sent directly to local YMCA branches in the L.A. area. You can start an order here.

  • Donate to @altadenagirls, a parent-run group dedicated to restoring normalcy in the lives of teenage girls impacted by the Eaton Canyon fire. They are looking for beauty and care items like shampoo and conditioner, moisturizer, school supplies, and plus-sized clothing. Please consider products catered to Black and other girls of color when choosing items to ship and donate.

  • Visit Charity Navigator’s page of charities responding to the LA wildfires for organizations you can support with a monetary donation.

  • If you need help talking to your kids about what's happened, Dr. Becky, founder of parent coaching app Good Inside, has got you covered. Read her helpful how-to guide here.

  • Gift Duckbill to someone who needs it, even easier than usual: use the code DBLOVESLA to get 50% off all Duckbill gift cards here.

We know this can be an overwhelming time for those affected and the people who love and care about them. Helping those in need should never come at the cost of your capacity or well-being, so please lean on us for support.
